The Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) is a not-for-profit charity established to run the business of supporting 538 Squadron. It is not part of the Canadian Armed Forces, and consists mainly of parents/guardians of Cadets enrolled in our Squadron. Every parent/guardian who has a Cadet in the program is automatically a member of the SSC. The SSC is responsible for generating funds to meet the Squadron’s many financial needs. This is raised through donations and fundraising events such as casinos, silent auctions, bottle drives, other fundraising programs, and donations.
In addition, the SSC organizes volunteers for non-Cadet based activities. We support the Squadron by:
• Stocking the Canteen during parade nights;
• Assisting Cadets in preparation for Scholarship Boards;
• Providing volunteers for Cadet activities as directed by the CO;
• Renting, purchasing and maintaining band equipment;
• Maintaining the Squadron Headquarters;
• Sponsoring citizenship tours;
• Recruiting activities, as well as advertising and promoting the Squadron and the Cadet program; and
• Providing facilities for optional training events, which may include catering.
The SSC holds monthly meetings, where ALL parents/guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend.
NOTE: In order to receive email updates from the squadron, please provide your email address to SSC.Executive@538aircadets.com. Please make sure to add this email address to your “Safe Senders List”. This list is maintained by the Squadron Sponsoring Committee. The Administration office does not maintain or coordinate an email distribution list for SSC purposes.
ATTENTION ALL PARENTS & VOLUNTEERS
We are requiring all of our parent volunteers to have gone through the vulnerable sector screening process. It makes it safer for the cadets and you get a snazzy laminated ID badge to wear. Even if you just want to work bottle drives, pop into the Cadet HQ with a couple of references we could call and we’ll have it all done - except the police check. Then you’re all good to work alongside our awesome cadets.
Please go to the link below to complete the volunteer application. Once on the site, select your province and our location (538 - The Sponsoring Committee - 538 Buffalo Air Cadets). You will need to register for the site. Once registered, please check your email to activate your account. Once your account is verified, complete all the steps and provide a credit card for the payment of $26.00 plus GST (print your receipt to have this reimbursed by the SSC Sponsoring Committee). Once all steps are done, your check will be completed within one day.
Please be advised that you will need to complete pages 1 -2 of the manual application and if you are unable to complete the online application for police screening. Please complete pages 3-4 and take them to your local police station. Finally, if you need to have your screening renewed, please complete and submit page 5 in addition to the online OR manual police check.
